I was born in the tiny town of Buckingham, Illinois.  Since the town had only 100 inhabitants, our family of 12 counted for over 10% of the population.  I studied painting, drawing and sculpture after high school but didn't feel like starving for a living so I moved on, eventually doing disaster relief work for the Federal Government.  I survived a long tour of duty with the U. S. Army in Viet Nam, then went on to become a senior vice president in charge of branch operations with a major bank in Los Angeles for over 25 years before taking up writing.

I lived in the Hollywood Hills for most of my banking life, but now I'm happy to reside in beautiful Palm Springs, California where I write when I’m not walking my dogs and enjoy reading, travel and dining with friends.  I’ve written 2 novels, 5 screenplays and a few short stories. The screenplay version of this novel "The Wrong Bus" has been optioned twice with an Academy Award winning actress attached to play one of the leading roles.

Some of John’s favorite quotes -

"I am part of all I have met."

-- Alfred Lord Tennyson

"It is necessary to write, if the days are not to slip emptily by. How else, indeed, to clap the net over the butterfly of the moment? For the moment passes, it is forgotten; the mood is gone; life itself is gone. That is where the writer scores over his fellows: he catches the changes of his mind on the hop."

-- Vita Sackville-West

"Words -- so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them."

-- Nathaniel Hawthorne

"Don't part with your illusions.  When they are gone you may still exist but you have ceased to live."

-- Mark Twain
